Hi, I’m John Moon…..
As the voice and creator of Solo Passages, I arrived at this expression of mindful living on a similar path as many of my listeners….living life, walking, running and overcoming obstacles on my own “solo passage”.
I hope to help those who are curious, perhaps those in transition to a new job or career or teachers and parents looking for tools to help foster and model mindfulness. I seek to help anyone looking for social & emotional health for themselves, their families and their communities. By sharing lessons from my own solo passages, and through interviews with those who are more knowledgeable than I in these areas, perhaps others can improve their health and well-being….by employing mindfulness, empathy, resilience, compassion and kindness, essentially, mindful living.
I have loved my work in the magazine publishing business. And, at times, hated it too. I loved watching my two fabulous children grow into adults. I’ve also been overwhelmed sometimes, with the responsibilities that come with parenting (teenage years, college and weddings for example). Through it, I’ve observed that each of us is on our own solo passage. Though we live and interact with others, the lens we see the world through, the choices we make, how we perceive and respond…is filtered, informed and influenced by where we are, on that solo passage.
After trying unsuccessfully for 8 years to transition the non-profit world, it was not until I was 53 when this successful transition happened. I’d finally found an environment where my personality and natural talents blossomed. That was the moment I became a new and improved, happier human!
My experiences will undoubtedly impact what you’ll find on the Solo Passages website. Yet the information will be both factual and health-based, with an abundance of studies and research resources, found at the American Mindfulness Research Association website, among other face-based sources.
